The Manhattan

Previous | Home | Next

The whiskey cousin to the martini, the Manhattan follows the same mixing procedures as its slightly more popular relative, with a little less variation. Unless a patron states otherwise, a Manhattan calls for pouring 1 ½ oz whiskey (some substitute bourbon) and ¾ oz. sweet vermouth over ice in a mixing cup. Stir, and then strain into an 8-oz. tumbler or martini glass. Garnish with a cherry. Some places will serve more than 1 ½ oz. of whiskey for Manhattans. That's fine; just remember to adjust the amount of sweet vermouth accordingly.
